The market of wood and cellulose products is one of the basic pillars in the construction industry, furniture making, interior decoration and packaging industries throughout Iran. Among all natural materials, Russian imported wood has always had the largest share in the Iranian market due to its good mechanical properties, competitive price, high plasticity and stability against various environmental conditions. Mashhad, as an industrial, pilgrimage and construction hub in the east of the country, has a decisive role in the exchange, storage and consumption of imported wood. Accurate knowledge of the price of Russian wood in Mashhad and the factors affecting the price fluctuation is of vital importance for carpenters, mass builders, decorators and production workshops; Because buying on time can reduce the total costs of a project by tens of percent. Toska Wood Industries, as one of the reliable and specialized collections of direct import and supply of all types of wood and wood products in Khorasan, has provided this comprehensive guide to clarify the dimensions of the Mashhad wood market and to understand the reasons for the price fluctuations.
Russian wood basically refers to the products that are extracted from taiga forests and Siberian regions of the Russian Federation and are sent to Iran in the form of sawdust, timber, planks, sawn timber and lumber after primary processing in the sawmills of those regions. Due to the high species diversity, including Nerad, Sasna and Yuleka species, Russian woods have different uses in carpentry, making gable roofs, furniture, carpentry and even light skeletons. However, because all these shipments are imported goods, they are directly under the microscope of currency changes, trade laws, logistics costs and seasonal fluctuations. In the following, we will comprehensively examine all the variables that determine the price of Russian wood in Mashhad and the factors affecting the price fluctuation.
The strategic position of the Mashhad wood market and the importance of Russian wood prices
Mashhad is considered one of the most demanded destinations for Russian boards in eastern Iran due to the concentration of housing mass builders, hundreds of modern and traditional carpentry and tailoring workshops, extensive hotel construction projects and industrial towns active in the field of furniture. In centers such as Tos Industrial Town, Keshavarz Boulevard, and especially the famous Khin Arab wood market in Mashhad, large-scale energy and meterage exchanges are carried out. For this reason, the price of Russian wood in Mashhad is considered the economic pulse of a large part of the supply chain of construction projects in the region. When the price of Russian wood fluctuates in Mashhad, the final cost of producing interior decoration, cabinets, wooden doors, gazebos, pergola, floors and villa roofs is directly affected. With a deep understanding of these needs and in order to stabilize the consumer market, Alder Wood Industries has always tried to provide all kinds of Russian timber at the best daily rates to the industries of the province by eliminating many intermediaries.
In addition to domestic consumption in Mashhad city, many orders from nearby cities such as Neishabur, Sabzevar, Torbat Heydarieh, Qochan and even North and South Khorasan provinces are supplied through Mashhad wood terminal. Therefore, the clear determination of the price of Russian wood in Mashhad can help balance the wood market in the entire eastern region of the country. Examining the market trends shows that professional buyers are always looking for a supplier who has a suitable warehouse volume, fair pricing and a high variety of dried wood and fresh wood in their warehouse, services that Alder Wood Industries has achieved by relying on its strong supply chain in the province.
Typology of Russian timber and its effect on the price of Russian timber in Mashhad
When we talk about the price of Russian wood in Mashhad, this product should not be considered a one-dimensional product. What is sold in the market under the general name "Russian wood" includes several species of coniferous trees, each of which has different characteristics, density, strength and, of course, rial value. In addition to economic loss, choosing the wrong type of wood can also distort the final quality of the project.
Russian fir (Abies)
Nerad wood is one of the most popular species in Mashhad market. The color of this wood is light cream to pinkish white and has a straight texture, very light and well-made. This wood has excellent sanding properties and is used for decorative works, production of light furniture coils, framing, lamp production and building infrastructure. The resistance of Narad wood to the absorption of paint and protective coatings is high, and due to the controlled moisture absorption after drying, it shows good dimensional stability in the dry climate of Mashhad. Usually, the price of Narad wood is known as the basic index in measuring the price of Russian wood in Mashhad.
Sasena wood or red pine (Pinus sylvestris)
Sasna, or pine, is a wood with a denser texture, with butterfly knots and a pink and orange color. This wood has more gum and therefore shows higher resistance against moisture, insects and decay. Workshops in Mashhad that are engaged in making wooden facades, outdoor furniture, flower boxes, pavilions and heavy frames prefer Sasna. Sasna wood may require more skill in the cutting and planing stages due to its tight knots and heavier weight than Nerad, but it gives higher mechanical durability to the final work. The variety of Sasna grade plays an effective role in determining the price of Russian wood in Mashhad.
Christmas tree (Picea abies)
Yolka is a wooden tree with a uniform texture, white and with small point knots. Due to the softness and homogeneity of the texture, uniform drying speed and extraordinary flexibility, this wood is highly demanded in the industries of door making, cladding, production of light skeletons and luxury architectural joinery. Yuleka wood has a very sensitive sorting; The presence of the smallest crack or fungus causes its price to drop. First-class Christmas tree species are usually traded at a higher price in the Mashhad market. Alder Wood Industries continuously imports and distributes these three widely used species with standard sorting so that buyers can be sure of the authenticity and quality of Russian wood.
Key factors influencing the price fluctuation of Russian wood in Mashhad
To understand the price behavior of Russian wood in Mashhad, we must carefully identify a set of macro and micro economic, logistic and international variables. The factors affecting the fluctuation of the price of this imported wood are not limited to a specific area and it is the intertwining of these conditions that determines the current price of each cubic meter of board.
Exchange rate fluctuations and international remittances
Since Russian wood is a 100% imported product, the rial rate against the Russian ruble and the free dollar is considered the strongest price determining lever. Any jump in the currency market instantly increases the cost of ordering wood from Russian companies. Fluctuations in bank transfer fees, fluctuations in exchange platforms, and the requirements for clearing foreign exchange obligations, in turn, have shifted clearance and purchase costs, and this increase in costs is directly imposed on the price of Russian wood in Mashhad.
International transportation costs and ground and rail fleet rental
The route of transporting wood from Russia to Iran is usually carried out by sea from the ports of Astrakhan, Olya and Makhach Qala to the northern ports of Iran (Bandar Anzali, Amirabad, Nowshehr and Faridunknar) or it enters the country through rail and road lines from the border of Astara. The increase in freight rates for cargo vessels in the Caspian Sea, the lack of wagons in the railway network, and the fluctuation of road transit fares from the entry borders to Mashhad constitute a significant share of the final price. Since Mashhad is located in the east of Iran, the cost of road transport from the northern ports to the warehouses of Mashhad (such as Khin Arab) will increase the price of Russian wood in Mashhad compared to the northern cities.
Tariffs, customs duties and plant quarantine inspections
Climatic and weather conditions in Siberia and Caspian sea ports
The process of cutting trees in Russia takes place mostly in the cold seasons and by freezing the wet soils of the taiga so that heavy machinery can move through the forests. In case of excessive cold, rivers freezing, or the Caspian Sea becoming stormy and ships not being able to dock, the arrival of Russian wood to Iranian ports will be stopped or delayed. The lack of supply against stable demand causes the rapid rise in the price of Russian wood in Mashhad.
The difference between kiln-dried wood and green lumber
Another technical component affecting the rate is the amount of moisture in the board. Wet Russian wood has a moisture content higher than 30 to 50% and is not suitable for delicate use, unless it is kept for months in airy environments. On the other hand, dried wood with a standard moisture content between 10 and 12% has gone through the industrial drying process in ovens. Consumers in Mashhad, due to the relatively dry climate of the region, need completely dry wood so that they do not get tangled and cracked after installation. Naturally, the cost of the drying oven is calculated directly on the price of Russian wood in Mashhad and has a higher value. Alder wood industry supplies processed and dry industrial wood with a guarantee of no cracking.
Dimensions, sorting and grading of Russian wood in Mashhad
When buying Russian wood in Mashhad, you will come across terms such as grade zero, grade one, grade two, and molded board. A proper understanding of these categories allows the buyer to choose the wood that fits the needs of his project without wasting capital.
Premium grade boards or grade A (super) do not have any burnt knots, longitudinal splits, loss, decay or pest attack. These types of boards are used in the production of steel furniture, luxury decorative profiles and Termwood and naturally have a higher price. Commercial grade 2 and 3 have natural knots, slight streaks of gum, and sometimes surface discoloration due to initial moisture, which are ideal for construction work, temporary flooring, scaffolding, and palletizing, and are much more affordable.
Standard dimensions also have many variations. Russian wood is usually available in Mashhad market in lengths of 4 meters and 6 meters and thicknesses of 2.5 cm (one inch board), 5 cm (two inch board), 6.3 cm, 7.5 cm and widths of 10, 15, 20 and 25 cm. Four-sided beams such as 10x10 or 5x5 are also very effective in framing. The rarity of a certain size due to the sudden demand of large urban projects can change the price balance of Russian wood in Mashhad for those special dimensions.
